 Bamboo Species
There are more than 1,000 bamboo species known. These are the four most common:
Arundinaria
An edible bamboo, used mainly as fodder for livestock in the winter, this species is also used for mats and other woven handcraft products.
Bambusa
Used for textile products such as yarn, linens and clothing, this species is also edible and often used in Chinese medicine.
Dendrocalamus
Also an edible bamboo, this species is used as fodder for livestock. It is also used to make items such as baskets, trays and mats.
Thamnocalamus
This species is typically used in construction, most often for fencing and roofing.
